L'Italia trionfa alla World Cup 2004

Italy wins "WORLD CUP 2004 3on3 Basketball", the competition organised by Showtime Promotion from Friday 23 to Sunday 25 in Caorle (Venice) Italy. The Italian team finishes undefeated, winning all the matches from the first phase to the finals with Lithuania. A great success for Marco Scorrano, Simone Pierich, Simone Cotani and Paolo Giuliani and coach by Demis Cavina, who seemed to be the favourites of the event from the beginning. Anyway it has not been so easy as it seems for Italians players, who has shown a good organisation and an excellent defence. Inserted in Group 'Ancilotto' Italy wins without great difficulties with France, Slovenia and United States On Saturday the final quarters, at best of three games. Italy plays with Czech Republic ( who classified at the fourth place in the other group, named "Ravaglia" together with Argentina, Lithuania and Croatia), and wins 22-18 and 21-17 without the necessity of the third round. On Sunday Italy plays semi finals with Croatia and wins 21-13 both first and second round. Italy is at the top, now there is only last exam with Lithuania, who has defeated Argentina in a very though semi final, decided only on game three. Also in this case, there has been no need of the third game, since the home team has won 24-20 and than 21-15. The two teams face point to point in Game One. Pierich scores three free throws for Italy and to match the result on 16-16. The game is decided by Simone Cotani (one of the most talented players in Italy, who has already played in major National Team), who scores whit a tap after a mistaken shoot . Less equilibrated the second round, with Italy who makes the difference from the beginning with some long distance shoots by Marco Scorrano still working hard with defence. It’s again Scorrano (who wins the prize ad MVP of the tournament) who scores the 21-15 that gives the World title to Italy without the need of a third match. In the other finals, which decided the final classification, Argentina wins easily with Croatia, conquering the third place, France beats Slovenia and Czech Republic the United States.

L'Italia si è aggiudicata l'edizione 2004 di "WORLD CUP 2004 3on3 Basketball", manifestazione organizzata da Showtime Promotion che da venerdì a ieri sera (domenica) ha animato il Parco Giochi di Viale Santa Margherita a Caorle (Venezia). La formazione azzurra aveva concluso a punteggio pieno il girone eliminatorio, e senza alcuna sconfitta aveva proseguito anche i quarti di finale, le semifinali sino ad imporsi nella finalissima con la Lituania. Insomma, un percorso limpido per Marco Scorrano, Simone Pierich, Simone Cotani e Paolo Giuliani, i cestisti a disposizione di mister Demis Cavina che hanno sbaragliato la concorrenza delle altre sette formazioni presentatesi al via nella competizione. Non è stata tuttavia una passeggiata quella degli azzurri, che comunque si sono distinti per organizzazione di gioco e per una efficace azione difensiva, che ha tenuto a bada gli attacchi avversari. Venerdì, giornata inaugurale, l'Italia incontra nel girone "Ancilotto" Francia, Slovenia e Usa. Se con Francia e Slovenia gli incontri appaiono più equilibrati, gli statunitensi appaiono invece al di sotto delle aspettative, tanto che finiranno all'ultimo posto della competizione. Sabato, nei quarti di finale, l'Italia se la vede con la Repubblica Ceca, finita quarta nell'altro girone (il "Ravaglia), e vince per 22-18 e 21-17 senza bisogno del terzo incontro. Ieri (domenica) è stata la Croazia la vittima sacrificale delle semifinali, e - fatto curioso - gli azzurri si impongono per 21-13 in gara-1 concedendo il 'bis' con identico punteggio in gara-2. L'Italia è in cima, manca solo l'ultimo esame con la Lituania, dove non c'è bisogno nemmeno in questo caso della terza partita, in quanto gli azzurri vincono i primi due incontri con i punteggi di 24-20 e 21-15. Gara-1 è stata molto combattuta, ma i ragazzi di Cavina sono apparsi ben organizzati di fronte ad una formazione lituana che provava a rispondere facendo leva sul tiro dalla distanza. Pierich realizzava tre tiri liberi portando gli azzurri sul 16 pari nel momento più delicato della partita, vittoria su canestro decisivo di Scorrano. Meno equilibrata gara-2, con l'Italia a fare subito la differenza e a limitare al meglio i lituani. La finale per il terzo posto (gara unica) premia l'Argentina, che supera con una certa facilità la Croazia per 21-13. Marco Scorrano è quindi premiato come miglior giocatore (Mvp) della manifestazione, premiato dall'Assessore provinciale Rita Zanutel e dall'Assessore allo Sport del Comune di Caorle, Massimo David.
